Is Himalayan Salt Halal and Kosher? Certifications Explained

Published 2026-10-21 · 4 minute read · by Al Goher Trader

Why a Mined Mineral Needs Certification at All

Rock salt itself contains no animal products, so it might seem like Halal and Kosher status should be automatic. In practice, certification verifies the full production chain — no cross-contamination with non-compliant substances during crushing, screening, and packing, and audited facility and process standards — not just the raw material.

What Halal Certification Covers

Our edible line is Halal certified (Halal CB, PS 3733:2019), which audits the processing facility, equipment, and packaging line to confirm no cross-contamination and that handling practices meet Halal standards throughout.

What Kosher Certification Covers

Kosher certification (GITCHIA, IDA-342:2020) similarly audits the facility and process, with its own standards body and renewal cycle, distinct from Halal certification even though both ultimately confirm a clean, single-purpose processing line.

How to Verify a Supplier’s Certificates Are Current

Ask for the certificate number and issuing body, and check that body’s registry directly rather than trusting a PDF alone — legitimate certifying bodies maintain searchable registries. Certificates also expire and require renewal audits, so ask for the current certificate, not one from a prior year. We publish our certification details on our quality page and provide the documents with every food-grade shipment.
