How Long Do Himalayan Salt Lamps Last? Lifespan & Signs of Wear

No Fixed Expiration, But Real Wear Over Time
A genuine rock-salt lamp does not have a hard expiration date the way a perishable product does — with reasonable care, lamps commonly last many years. What actually limits lifespan is cumulative moisture exposure and physical wear, not age by itself.
What Shortens a Lamp’s Life
Constant high humidity without adequate drying time (a steamy bathroom with poor ventilation, a coastal climate) is the main factor — repeated saturation and drying cycles gradually erode the surface. Leaving a lamp off for long stretches in a humid room accelerates this, since the bulb’s heat is what evaporates surface moisture day to day.
Signs a Lamp Is Reaching the End of Its Useful Life
A visibly shrinking or pitted surface, a base that no longer sits level because the bottom has eroded unevenly, or a crystal that stays wet even after hours lit are the practical signs — at that point the lamp is still salt, just no longer holding its shape or finish the way it did new.
Extending Lifespan
Keep the lamp lit several hours a day, avoid placing it in constant high-humidity areas unless rated for it, wipe with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, and store unused lamps somewhere dry rather than packed away damp.
